Web 2.0 companies

Signed for accounts at some of the promising Web 2.0 startups, Omnidrive looked useful and had rave reviews. Unfortunately, it seems to have starting troubles. This weekend I tried to drag and drop my photos over and it failed without copying even one file after some kind of wierd xml error message. Moreover, it always keep complaining about not being able to contact the server. Even if it is beta quality, these are basic things that shouldn't have been overlooked before a public release. Sharpcast seems to have gotten the basics right. Rich client backed by effective synchronization is their goal. And hey, the upload of over 300 photos using their XP client seems to be working fine so far. But, the web UI was well hidden, probably because it didn't work properly yet? TimeBridge was useless at least to me. iScrybe might be more useful as an organizer(Flash + offline is interesting), but seems vaguely similar to 37 signals software.

Vishnu,

We agree that there were some issues with Windows shell client and we have released a new version which has fixed all the problems we have been hearing for the past one week. "Error Communicating with Server" message has got nothing to do with Omnidrive storage service and that message is shown by our Auto-Updater. The auto-updater service is also fixed and everytime we launch a new version, you will get it automatically.

We apologize for the initial hiccups and we are constantly working to improve the product.

Thanks for trying Omnidrive!

Jagdeesh,
I got the update today and the autoupdater error seems to have been fixed. But, now the shell extension seems to have disappeared. Also, on checking the website I found that some photos did get uploaded yesterday, but probably the XP client had a problem with reporting status. If you wish to debug my machine or need more information, please let me know. The logs said something about regsvr32 failing, but those dlls didn't have the entry points, so it might be ok?
Thanks for the tip, I did find the link to photos in the Sharpcast desktop client later. But, I was trying to locate the link in the website without loggin in. duh.
